You know AI
should be helping
by now.
I'm a fractional AI adoption advisor for owner-operated businesses. I build your business a brain, then teach your team to run it. You own it when I leave. Nobody gets replaced.
The problem
Nobody ordered you to adopt AI. You just keep hearing about it, and you can see competitors starting to move.
Meanwhile you have crews to schedule, customers to answer, and no spare afternoon to figure out which tools are real. So a tool gets bought. A few people poke at it. Six weeks later nothing has changed except the software bill.
You have not missed the window. You do not need to become a tech company. Finding the practical way in for a business like yours is the work I do.
The method
The Signal Method. Three moves.
Cut the Noise
Find where your time and attention actually leak. Not where a vendor says they do.
Find the Signal
Design the one AI-enabled workflow that matters, wired into the real business. Your inbox, your schedule, your job files, your numbers. A system that touches the real work is a system people actually use.
Make it Human
Teach your team to run it. Human in the loop, reskilled into higher-value work. Nobody left behind and nobody replaced.
Why it works
I don't start with tools. I start with three things.
Deep research on your business. Your thinking, in your own words, recorded. And a map of where the two meet.
Most people in this work design from one phone call. That's how you end up with a template wearing your logo. The three inputs are why the workflow ends up built on your business instead.
What you own when we're done
I build your business a brain. Three layers.
At the core, your facts and your company data. In the middle, the playbook your people use to navigate it. On top, the instructions the AI runs on.
You own the brain, not a subscription to it. If the AI landscape shifts in two years, you swap the engine and keep the brain. Nobody has to bet the business on picking the right AI company today.
The exit is built in. Teaching your team is part of the method, not an upsell. I build infrastructure that survives a person leaving, including me. That's enablement, not dependency.
Could you take a month off?
Not because you want to. Because a business that can run a month without the owner is a business with real systems in it. That's the bar.
The fit
Who this is for
Owner-operated businesses with a team and real revenue. Owners who are curious rather than converted, and who care what happens to the people who work for them.
Who this isn't for
Anyone looking to cut headcount with AI. That's a different consultant and I'll happily say so on the first call.
Proof
I've helped more than 550 university faculty put AI to work in courses they had taught for years. Skeptical experts are the hard case.
I've built AI infrastructure for a scale-up restoration and renovation company in Northeast Ohio that started with zero AI tooling.
Who does this work
Ed Buchanan. Twenty years finding the story inside complexity.
I spent 20 years in higher education, which is where complex ideas go to become inaccessible. My job was to reverse that. I built frameworks, ran trainings, and shaped the adoption plan for a university-wide platform migration and a full reaccreditation.
I hold an MFA in Creative Writing. I speak at higher education and L&D conferences. And I've spent the last two years applying the same clarity work to owners building something worth explaining.
Why does a storyteller do AI work? Because you can't build systems that fit a business until you understand the business as a story first.
The work is making the complex human.
Engagement shape
One engagement, one scope, agreed before we start.
We build the system, your team learns to run it, and you keep it.
I take a small number of clients and onboard one at a time.
Curious what this looks like for your business?
